For those of you who paddled with us last year, you will know that every week I posted the practices, reviews of practices and any important information on this blog.
So, with no further delay, here is the first weekly update for 2008!
Since we don't have a team name yet, and you are the only group I am coaching at the moment, your practices will be the ones found in any updates. As soon as we come up with a name, I will change that.
First, the review from last night. Again, my apologies for the somewhat chaotic start. Everything seems to be falling into place and my attention will be 100% yours now.
When we have calm water, like last night, it is always worthwhile to take advantage of the conditions and work on technique. I hope that my placing everyone's arms in the correct position and showing you how to reach properly cleared up some of the questions you may have had. If not, don't worry. Technique is something we will work on every night. Once we have the basic foundations laid, the rest will come easily.
One thing I will say about last night's practice, and the first one for that matter, is that I am really impressed with the turnout and the enthusiasm the group has. Keep it up, everyone! Consistency is the key to the boat's success and your enthusiasm will make it that much better.
Tomorrow night's practice will be the following:
- 10-15 minutes technique and timing drills. (Focus on the reach, the catch and the exit.)
- 2x2 paddling
- hit and glide
- Introduction to Intervals: (3', 1', 3',1') and (2',1',2',1') with equal rest. All will be done hit and glide.
- Starts: Introduction to first 5 strokes.
See you all tomorrow!
